About Birds N Yarn!
This business developed from my absolute love of knitting! My stockpile of treasures grew like a well-tended garden, and then "it" happened. I found that Balene needles, my absolute favorite, were no longer being made. Off to the world of eBay I went to search for Balene needles, and I soon discovered that a lot of other knitters also wanted Balene needles. The bidding became insane, and I was caught in the middle of it!

Learning some basics about how eBay works, I began to sell my cache of prized possessions to satisfy my new passion.

In early 2003, I set up my eBay site and store, "emtnestr." I had a very simple business plan: sell yarns that I knew were beautiful and well worth the price to people who loved them as much as I did. As for my customers, I have tried to treat them the way I would want to be treated. I am delighted that my eBay customers have consistently given me 100% positive feedback. My husband, John, is the Inventory and Shipping Department. He is not above including little notes along with candy and "stuff" while filling orders. Because we have a very large inventory, we have a very short turnaround time frame for shipping. We ship a great deal internationally and enjoy those relationships as well.

I opened Birds-n-Yarn so that we could expand the line of yarns, needles, and accessories for our many loyal customers. While eBay has been good to us, it did not allow for the special relationships and services we want our customers to enjoy.

Since opening Birds-n-Yarn, we have become a representative for Grafton Fibers selling Tom Diak's fabulous laminated handcrafted knitting needles as well as his beautiful Hummingbird Crochet Hooks. We have also added Rowan, Schaefer, Indie Knits, J. Knits and Cherry Tree Hill to our line of exceptional yarns, as well as Lucy Neatby's brilliant teaching videos.

Oh, and I must explain our name. We have two parrots, Margaret and Kiri. Margaret is a Jardine's parrot who can duplicate exactly every sound in the house. She's a hoot! Kiri, a pied cockatiel, was named for Kiri Te Kanawa. After seeing his "strut" and his "Barrymore" pose, it became obvious he is a male. Any female, including Margaret, is the love of his life. Margaret is our business mascot, and Kiri provides entertainment whistling his favorite tunes. We enjoy a spectacular variety of bird species here in Vermont. Every now and then, we sneak bird names into our exclusive yarns, such as Downy and Parakeet from Lorna's Laces.

It has been some time since my obsession with Balene needles started this adventure, but it is a joy to do what I love and to enjoy the relationships we have developed, and continue to develop, with our customers. We welcome you to visit our site any time!
